Located on the upper level of the oldest cinema in Paris, Le Salon du Pantheon is bringing a bit of cafe society to local film noir. An unlikely decorating duo, namely antique dealer Christian Sapet and actress Catherine Deneuve design the all-new tearoom and salon-style cafe. The two collaborate on the single room parlor divided between several private seating areas composed with armless loungers, leather tulip-style chairs and red-carpet colored throw rugs. Walls are strewn with photographs of French icons like Marlene Dietrich and Arletty with coffee table books and periodicals dedicated to the art of moviemaking.
The Food
Simple culinary pleasures fill the light cafe menu of this film hall cafe and tearoom. A modern spin on the typical corner brasserie, this one room tea hall offers a light menu of market fresh salads including wild arugula, mixed greens and tuna-topped Nicoise. A selection of cheese boards and artesian charcuterie plates are easily shared and composed per request. Aside from a smoked salmon and traditional chicken entree, the menu is surprisingly vegetarian friendly and pairs well with one of the numerous bottles of affordable table wine. Dessert is an elaborate collection of homemade tarts and pastries large enough for sharing.
Last Word
Not really film noir, the Pantheon is home to the largest collection of arthouse and independent films in Paris with convenient showings throughout the day as early as 11am.
